Over the years we have updated our popular list based on new business development and seasonal attractions. This updated version considers recent Covid restrictions and puts a little more emphasis on outdoor or safety-wise options. As always, please check websites to confirm hours and other details.
1. Town of Haymarket
The Town of Haymarket is a small town located on Route 55 (Washington Street) between Routes 29 and 15. The Town has a rich history dating back to the 1700s and it still maintains that small town character—with red brick sidewalks, decorative lamp posts, a historic museum and distant views of Bull Run Mountain.
Walk through town to shop at Details, Needle in the Haymarket or Copper Cricket Consignment. Dine at a variety of family-owned restaurants, including Giuseppes, Foster’s Grille, El Vauqero, Hidden Julles Cafe and Pizzeria or Zandras, which all offer take out and some outdoor seating. Satisfy your sweet tooth at Cupcake Heaven or Cookies and Cream, or enjoy a glass of wine at the new Aroma Wine Tasting Room. Take a break at the Haymarket Community Park and relax in the shade.
2. Haymarket IcePlex
Haymarket is fortunate to have it’s own indoor professional ice skating rink, also located in the center of Town. With two sheets of ice, there are public skate sessions (with temporary limitations) offered most days of the week, as well as Freestyle sessions for the more advanced skaters and hockey Stick and Shoot sessions. Visit the website for information about lessons, programs and camps.
3. Pevs Paintball
Located just minutes from the Town of Haymarket on Route 15 in Aldie, Pevs Paintball is a competitive team shooting site (safely using dye) for kids of all ages (5 and up). It can be an excellent way get exercise, reduce stress and have fun! Games are played entirely outside and contact between players is practically non-existent. Unlike other sports activities, paintball does not have any person to person contact. During Covid, Pevs is providing plenty of space for staging your gear between games and has moved dozens of their tables apart.
4. Winery at La Grange
The Winery at La Grange is a relative newcomer to Virginia’s historic wine trail. Established in 2006, they currently operate as both a farm winery and commercial grape buyer. A huge favorite among locals, La Grange offers wine tastings in the charming and historic brick manor, sipping stations outside, food trucks, live music and special events (with some limitations during Covid).
The breathtaking landscape overlooks the vineyards, mountains and sunset and provides an expansive space for friends and families (and furry friends) to gather, sip and relax in the fresh outdoors.
5. Haymarket Gainesville Library
The new Haymarket Gainesville Community Library is a sleek, sun-filled space that opened in 2015 and has become a wonderful addition to the community. It is currently open during Covid with limited service but offers lots of indoor space to spread out safely. Contact-Free Pick Up is also available. When restrictions are lifted, the Library has active children’s programs, book clubs, fundraisers and other community resources. Visit the Prince William County website for hours and information.
6. The Farm Brewery at Broad Run
The Farm Brewery is a 6 acre, meticulously landscaped “complex” for sipping, socializing and playing. Located right in Haymarket, the Farm is the local go-to spot to meet friends and enjoy a vast selection of Ales and Lagers, wines or handmade cider.
There’s always something going on like live music, sports watching, and trivia game nights (with limitations during Covid). Enjoy the brewery year round with plenty of indoor space that spills out to the grounds, which include fire pits, a pavilion, outdoor games, rotating food trucks and the NEW axe throwing court! The Farm is kid and dog friendly but please act responsibly.
7. Championship Golfing
For any golf enthusiast, Haymarket is the place to live! Western Prince William County is known for it’s several top rated golf courses including Bull Run Golf Club located right in Haymarket. This Championship Golf Course is one of Washington, D.C. area’s most outstanding public golf courses. The expansive course meanders through acres of undeveloped scenic meadows, ponds, and woodlands overlooking Bull Run Mountain.
Other nearby private and semi-private courses include Evergreen Country Club, Piedmont, Regency at Dominion Valley, Stonewall Golf Club and Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club.
8. Bull Run Mountain
We are all craving the outdoors these days! Just on the outskirts of town is Bull Run Mountain Natural Area Preserve which offers several easy to moderate hiking trails for all levels. The trails showcase both ecology and historic sites within the preserved terrain.
Fern Hollow Loop (moderate, 3.4 miles) is dotted with historic landmarks including the Upper Mill and Meadowlands ruins, an ice house structure, Corum House, and old cemetery. Dawson’s Trail (easy to moderate, 1.75 miles) travels by historic cemeteries from two different families who called this mountain home. Beech Ridge Loop is an easy, 1 mile trail and is a great place to spy a family of white-tailed deer or hear the knocks of one of our native woodpeckers.

9. Silver Lake Regional Park
Spend a day in Haymarket’s own sprawling recreation park with 230 acres of rolling meadows, pine forests and a 23-acre lake fed by Little Bull Run Stream. Amenities include four miles of multipurpose trails shared by hikers and equestrians and picnic areas with tables and permanent grills (personal grills not permitted).
The Lake offers Bank fishing for Bluegill and Largemouth Bass fish but gas powered watercraft is not permitted on the lake.
10. Manassas National Battlefield Park & Museum
Battlefield Park is just outside of Haymarket but is worth including because it is so close and offers miles of great hiking trails. There are scenic vistas, historic landmarks and trails for casual visitors, family walkers, trail runners and Civil War historians alike. The museum (which may have temporary restrictions) is filled with artifacts and exhibits pertaining to the First Battle of Manassas that even the youngest visitors may find interesting.
Pick up park maps and trail guides and set out to walk the rolling countryside in the brisk outdoors.
